NFD Receives EMS Trauma Award

Firefighter/Paramedic Larry Thomas, Brandon Turner and John Guegold, along with the flight crew from Air Evac treated a male patient who partially amputated his foot from a fall. The patient was appropriately treated and involved the use of a tourniquet. THe patient was transported via AirEvac to Grant Medical Center. The Patient underwent surgery and the staff at Grant Medical Center were able to save the patient’s foot. The patient was discharged three days later to a rehabilitation facility. The trauma surgeon at Grant believed the outcome could have been different if not for the aggressive care of Newark Fire Department and AirEvac.
