The City of Newark was selected to receive $369,265 in the FY14 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant program. In essence the grant will cover 100% of the costs including salary and benefits for three firefighters for two years. After which the City of Newark could elect to retain the personnel without federal subsidy. The city of Newark will have 180 days to fill the positions.
